1 12 2008

Year 2006 when I first joined this racing event, and once again last year….This coming Sunday Dec 7, 2008, I’ll participate again in the 16k event, marking my 3rd consecutive run for the Yakult Fun Run. I already mentioned this race a while ago, but let me share with you what is being written in the Philippine Star today…

The registration for this Sunday’s 20th Yakult 10 Miler, the last footrace for the year, ends on Thursday.

This was announced by race organizer Rudy Biscocho, who said the event, held together with a 3K and 5K run, will start and finish at the Vicente Sotto St. at the Cultural Center complex ground in Pasay City.

Race will start promptly at 6 a.m. “This event will be a good recovery run for those who participated at the 42K Milo national finals last Sunday. Thus far some 1,500 runners are now entered,” Biscocho said.

Meanwhile, Michael Ong, Yakult Phils. manager for sales and planning, announced that in celebration of Yakult’s 30 years in the Philippines, all race registrants will receive the new Yakult running singlet upon registration and all finishers will get a Yakult commemorative t-shirt plus a bottle of Yakult health drink with Lacto Bacilli Shirota Strain.

Interested runners and enthusiasts may register at the ground floor of the Vasquez Madrigal Plaza Bldg., 51 Annapolis St. in Greenhills, San Juan. Registration fee is P250 for the 3K, 5K, and 16K (10 mile) events.

A total of P45,000 in cash is at stake.

The top three male and female finishers of the 10-mile run will receive P10,000, P5,000, and P3,000, respectively, plus trophies. The fourth and fifth placers will receive P2,000 and P1,000.

For the first time in 20 years, a cash prize of P3,000 plus trophy will be awarded to the running team with the most number of entries.

In the 5K distance, the top three finishers will receive medals and Yakult gift packs. Age category (6-9 and 10-12) winners will receive medals and Yakult gift packs.

Last year’s 16K winners Cresenciano Sabal in the men’s division and Ailene Tolentino in the women’s division are expected to defend their respective titles on Sunday.

Assisting the race organizers on race day are the city governments of Manila, Pasay and Parañaque as well as the Manila Police District, Southern Police District, MMDA, the Philippine National Red Cross, Philippine Center for Sports Medicine and Spectrum Communications.
