“We wanted to play against tough opponents and we got to learn something.” -Martyn Davison
There was this scene from that movie, ‘American Gangster’ which I viewed almost 2 years ago but even upto now has a lasting effect on my life. It was when Frank Lucas (played by Denzel Washington, a tough gangster), was confronted by his mother. She discovered that his son was a drug dealer and she wanted to know the truth. But Frank denied it and made many alibis. And her mother slapped him on the face as a rude awakening.
Based on a true story, Frank Lucas, a leader of a gang, a heroin kingpin from Manhattan, known for his notoriety, but he was no matched against his mom in that situation.
Frank Lucas has found his rock…
In your life, who is your rock? Accept the fact that there is someone better and has more influence than you.
In your running career, who is your rock? He is always faster and stronger than you. And no matter how hard you try, you cannot outrun him for sure. But he is there not as your competitor but as an inspiration to motivate you to continue doing your best.
Everybody has a rock.
And I selected the image on the uppermost part as my CSS header because on this race, I DNFed- The Northface 100k Ultramarathon. And this is my rock to remind me always that I need to train and practice harder and longer, and hoping to finish it next year.
Because everybody has a rock.
God be Praised.
PRESS ON. NOTHING IN THE WORLD CAN TAKE THE PLACE OF PERSISTENCE. TALENT WILL NOT; NOTHING IS MORE COMMON THAN UNUSUAL INDIVIDUALS WITH TALENT. GENIUS WILL NOT; UNREWARDED GENIUS IS ALMOST A PROVERB. EDUCATION WILL NOT; THE WORLD IS FULL OF EDUCATED DERELICTS. PERSISTENCE AND DETERMINATION ALONE ARE OMNIPOTENT. -calvin coolidge
