29 10 2008

Today I ran and this is my 3rd day of practice for the Ultramarathon 102 kms event in April 5, 2009 dubbed as “The First Bataan 102 kms Ultramarathon Death March”. Here are the details:

Route2 (House-Empty Space-Vice versa)

Today’s Verse

“The prospect of the righteous is joy, but the hopes of the wicked come to nothing.”

Proverbs 10:28 (NIV)

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

Good news! When we seek righteousness, justice, holiness, mercy, and godliness, our future is full of joy. Don’t let the darkness around you steal away the glorious dawn of joy that even now has begun to appear.

My Prayer…

Father, please forgive me for the times I’ve grown depressed and melancholy over the condition of my world and culture. Thank you, dear Father, for the promise of victory and of glorious blessings that lie ahead. Please help me keep my eyes on your victory. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Today’s Verse Illustrated

28 -- 28 The prospect of the righteous is joy, but the hopes of the wicked come to nothing.

2nd Day Ultramarathon 102 kms

28 10 2008

Today I ran and this is my 2nd day of practice for the Ultramarathon 102 kms event in April 5, 2009 dubbed as “The First Bataan 102 kms Ultramarathon Death March”. Here are the details:

Route2 (House-Empty Space-Vice Versa)

MY GADGETS FOR TODAY WHILE RUNNING: timex heart rate monitor, new balance hydration belt with pocari sweat, adidas blue short, Century Run yellow singlet and adidas torsion “response” (white and blue)

DATA FROM TIMEX HEART RATE MONITOR: time hours, 54 mins and 5 secs.,approximately 9 kms, in zone 2.44, average hour 95, peak hour 152, minimum hour 56, total calories 243, recovery (114-103)

Since my training focused entirely on endurance and great patience..I have to religiously follow my training guide. If my program says 5 mile easy run, it means EASY RUN! I am tempted sometimes to speed up but hey…102 kms is 102 kms! The secret here is CONSISTENCY! GOD BLESS US ALL!

Today’s Verse

“But some troublemakers said, “How can this fellow [Saul] save us?” They despised him and brought him no gifts. But Saul kept silent.”

1 Samuel 10:27 (NIV)

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

Some folks didn’t want Saul to serve them as King because of his simple background and non-aristocratic family history. So often, we tend to do the same thing today — label people and discount their ability to lead God’s people or serve in God’s Kingdom because of their heritage or past. God, however, doesn’t look at a person’s pedigree. He searches the heart. So, dear leader, please stick close to the Lord, because you will be criticized. But please, don’t react to every little criticism; instead, devote yourself to serving the LORD boldly.

My Prayer…

Dear God, please forgive me for the times I doubted your selection of leaders. Please give me, along with my congregation, the ability to discern who your leaders are in our midst. Please give them the courage to lead unselfishly and faithfully. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Thoughts In Participating in the 102 kms Ultramarathon

27 10 2008

During my recent post, I stated there that today is my first day of training for that BIG event which could happen April 2009…but I have this mixed emotions for I know that it is very hard and very complicated. In my 1 and a half year in this sports called RUNNING, and I’ve been to a lot of 10, 15, 16, 21, 25 and 42 kms, been to some trail runs, but participating in 102 kms is really mind boggling and I can’t figure it out what kind of practice and how will I perform during the race. I invited my running comrades but majority of them don’t want to join because they fear that injury will hit them, others say they can’t finish the course, while some have difficulties in budget and logistics.

Since it’s my life long dream, I will grab this opportunity..to test my endurance and capacity. I’ve finshed three (3) full marathons (42 kms) already, but this is 102 kms with cut off time of just 13 hours. This race will bring out the best in me, if not the worst. As I told my friends that after this event, I will no longer join in any races for 6 months and I will take a Sabbathical rest in running (I will retire for a while haha).

Tomorrow is my 2nd day of practice and I’m so glad to have a program taken from a refutable ultramarathoner. My mind is set, and I’m ready to conquer Mariveles Bataan to Pampanga next year.

God bless us all!

My First Day of Training for the 102 kms UltraMarathon

27 10 2008

Today is my first day of training for the 102 kms ultramarathon on April 2009. This will take 5 months because the actual event is on April 4-5, 2009. Dubbed as the “First Bataan Death March 102 kms ultramarathon”, this will be an acid test for me. Here are the details:

Route5 (House-Empty Space)

MY GADGETS FOR TODAY WHILE RUNNING: timex heart rate monitor, spyder sunglasses, new balance hydration belt with pocari sweat, nike green singlet, new balance short with inner wear of asics cycling short and adidas torsion “response” (white and blue)

DATA FROM TIMEX HEART RATE MONITOR: time 1 hour, 41 mins and 38 secs., approximately 16 kms, in zone 34, average hour 116, peak hour 141, minimum hour 60, total calories 788, recovery 19 (122-103)

Today’s Verse

“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.”

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

When we talk about giving to God, or to the work of God, we must remember that it is all his. He doesn’t need our gifts to do his work. On the other hand, we do need to share the blessings he has entrusted to us. What we ‘have’ isn’t really ours; it’s all his, entrusted to us to be put into useful service to others for God’s work and God’s glory.

My Prayer…

Almighty God and Creator of the universe, I praise your creative genius revealed through the incredible variety found in your creation. Please be with us, your human children, as we seek to be faithful stewards of this wonderful gift. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Today’s Verse Illustrated

26 -- The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it.

Running 202 Easy Run

25 10 2008

I ran today. Here are the details:

Route6 (Empty Space)

MY GADGETS FOR TODAY WHILE RUNNING: timex heart rate monitor, adidas kotr white, asics black short, adidas shoes
DATA FROM TIMEX HEART RATE MONITOR: time 0 hours, 53 mins and 26 secs., in zone 0, average hour 104, peak hour 125, minimum hour 60, total calories 319, recovery 26 (111-85)

Today’s Verse

“Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another — and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

Hebrews 10:25 (NIV)

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

Going to church for most folks just isn’t very attractive. But, that shouldn’t surprise us. Doing things as an act of discipline isn’t very popular. Doing things for others isn’t seen as something necessary. The Holy Spirit’s message, however, reminds us that we need to go to be with God’s people because they need us — to encourage and to motivate THEM! In fact, I think the Lord would prefer us to think of it as “being” church rather than “going” to church.

My Prayer…

Father, please bless the group of Christians with whom I regularly meet. Bless them through my words, attitude, and influence as we join together to honor you and encourage each other. Thank you for giving me people with whom I can share my journey home to you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Today’s Verse Illustrated

25 -- Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another -- and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Big Feet And Big Heart.

23 10 2008

It was an unseasonably hot day. Everybody it seemed, was looking for some kind of relief, so an ice cream store was a natural place to stop.

A little girl, clutching her money tightly, entered the store. Before she could say a word, the store clerk sharply told her to get outside and read the sign on the door, and stay out until she put on some shoes. She left slowly, and a big man followed her out of the store.

He watched as she stood in front of the store and read the sign: ‘No Bare Feet’. Tears started rolling down her cheeks as she turned and started to walked away. Just then the big man called to her. Sitting down on the curb, he took off his size-12 shoes, and set them in front of the girl saying, “Here, you won’t be able to walk in these, but if you sort of slide along, you can get your ice cream cone.”

Then he lifted the little girl up and set her feet into the shoes. “Take your time,” he said, “I get tired of moving them around, and it’ll feel good to just sit here and eat my ice cream.” The shining eyes of the little girl could not be missed as she shuffled up to the counter and ordered her ice cream cone.

He was a big man, all right. Big belly, big shoes, but most of all, he had a big heart.

Today’s Verse

“”Everything is permissible”–but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is permissible”–but not everything is constructive. Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others.”

1 Corinthians 10:23-24 (NIV)

My Prayer…

Precious God and Almighty Father, thank you for the very many gifts you have poured into my life. I want to especially thank you for my spiritual freedom. Empower me to use it to bless others and build them up, rather than bringing glory to myself. Please help me see others as the place of your work in the world. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Today’s Verse Illustrated

24 -- Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others.

The Best Time to Pray…

23 10 2008

When life knocks you to your knees, well that’s the best position in which to pray, isn’t it?
